Kristian Woolf says he is looking forward to the St Helens community getting behind his Tonga side as they play twice at Saints’ Totally Wicked Stadium at the Rugby League World Cup 2021.
Woolf’ has impressed as Head Coach of Tonga, after his side beat New Zealand and World Champions Australia recently – becoming the first tier two nation to defeat a tier one nation.
Over his five years as coach of the Tonga national team, Woolf has improved the nation’s world ranking from 14th to 4th and guided them to the semi-finals of the World Cup back in 2017 whilst he has also led them to a famous victory over Great Britain Lions in 2019.
Tonga, who will be staying in St Helens, will play two matches at the Totally Wicked Stadium at RLWC2021, going head-to-head with Papa New Guinea and Wales – who could have both Regan Grace and Morgan Knowles in their ranks.
And Saints boss Woolf admits he is looking forward to the St.Helens faithful getting behind his Tonga team next year and believes Australia’s visit to the Totally Wicked Stadium is a fantastic reward for the Saints fans who sing so loud and proud.
