St.Helens Academy graduate Oscar Knox made his senior Super League and club debut in the Saints’ away match against Leigh and reflected on his special night with Saints TV.
The young forward described making his debut as a ‘dream come true’ for both him and his family, after years of hard work and sacrifice to reach the First Team. He also praised his teammates for helping him settle into the occasion and making the experience even more memorable.
Despite a bad night on the scoreboard, Knox felt the effort and togetherness within the team were clear to see. He explained that the squad had focused throughout the week on their work ethic and turning up for one another, and believes there are positives to build on from the performance.
Knox has been part of the Saints since joining through the Scholarship as a fourteen-year-old, after coming through the community game with Saddleworth Rangers and Birstall Victoria. He progressed through our Academy alongside several of the young players who have made their First Team debuts this season. Knox describing our young squad members as some of his closest friends and highlighted the support he has received from all members of the squad.
With his first Super League appearance now under his belt, Knox is already looking towards the future. He hopes to follow in the footsteps of Saints such as Jonny Lomax and Jack Welsby, while also hoping to be involved when Saints bring their season to a close at home against Hull KR next week.
