Interim Head Coach Eamon O’Carroll speaks to the press ahead of Saturday’s visit to the LNER Community Stadium to take on York Knights.
O’Carroll says St.Helens are looking to build on the commitment and togetherness shown in last week’s derby. After a turbulent week, the coach said the squad had enjoyed a much more settled build-up and praised the players for their attitude. He explained the focus has been on simplifying the team’s approach and giving the players greater clarity.
Despite injuries continuing to mount and make many of our senior players unavailable for selection, O’Carroll believes it is an opportunity for others to step up. Billy Keeley is set to make his First Team debut, while Alex Walmsley is expected to return for his 300th Super League appearance.
Looking ahead to York, O’Carroll expects a tough challenge against a dangerous home side and says the Saints will need to match the effort shown against Wigan while producing that level of performance for longer periods.
He also praised the leadership of Jonny Lomax during his injury lay-off and highlighted the development of several younger players, including Harry Robertson, Jake Davies, Tom Humphreys and Jacob Douglas.
