Following our opening round loss away at the hands of York, Matty Smith spoke to us about the game and his thoughts on the performance.
Matty knows how important that game could be in the scope of the season, and said he was disappointed to come away with the loss against one of our championship rivals for the season. However, he also said that he couldn’t fault the effort, with Jodie Cunningham and Rebecca Rotheram leaving the field early in the first half, but despite that the first half was positive.
As the game went on fatigue caught up with the group with us being two players down for more than 50 minutes of the game, but the effort itself and attitude were good, we just need to fix up some lapses of concentration.
We have an opportunity next week against London to right some wrongs, and Matty is looking for a reaction from the squad, with a big week coming up.
