Head Coach Paul Wellens preview the Saints’ huge Semi-Final clash in France against Catalans Dragons. To the victor go the spoils, and a place at Old Trafford the following week in the Betfred Super League Grand Final.
The Red V boss discusses all the latest news surrounding his squad, including an update on Joe Batchelor who unfortunately came off the field due to a hamstring injury sustained early on in Saints’ win over Warrington Wolves last Saturday afternoon.
That victory, the Club’s fourth over Wire in 2023, ensured St.Helens’ spot in the Semi-Final and a trip to the South of France in what will be an incredibly tough test against Catalans. Wellens gives his thoughts on the previous two meetings between Saints and the Dragons, the last of which was one of the most intense matches of the Super League season.
Friday’s match already has so much riding on it, but for the Saints they will be looking to ensure that the legendary careers of James Roby and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook get to sign off on the biggest stage. On the Catalans side, they will be fighting to do the same for Sam Tomkins, as the former England skipper will call time come the end of the 2023 season. Wellens expects that add further fuel to a fiery encounter.
With over 500 of the Saints faithful booking their flights, trains, and cars to be a part of that travelling number – Paul Wellens paid another fitting tribute to our supporters who have shown their loyal support of the team all year long.
