Take a look at what was a truly inspiring and wonderful occasion, as our St.Helens Women’s team make more history in signing their payment agreements to become the first-ever Saints Women to be paid for their efforts on the field as athletes.
Saints TV documented the special event which saw our Women’s squad welcome their loved ones to the Totally Wicked Stadium to be part of their official signing photographs.
The players had their official 2024 head shots taken ahead of the 2024 Betfred Women’s Super League season, as well as their photos taken in the Club’s Boardroom, in front of our storied trophy cabinet – where the Women’s Challenge Cup is currently housed.
Head Coach Matty Smith, CEO Mike Rush and Head of Women’s Pathways & Performance Jodie Cunningham then took to the stage to talk about the event and the news that Saints’ Women’s players are taking the next step in getting match payments.
The Captain of our team, Cunningham, then introduced a very special guest. Heather Lancaster back in 1978 was keen to set up a St.Helens Women’s team but it unfortunately didn’t work out… fast forward to now, she is full of pride seeing our players not only representing our Club, but being paid to do so on the pitch too.
