Following our round 5 win over the Leeds Rhinos, Paul Wellens spoke to the press as we made it four wins from five to start the season.
It was a result we were looking for, going into the game off the back of a loss last week, but one that looked in the balance in the opening exchanges, and Paul touched on that early in his press conference.
With Tommy Makinson pulling out of the game in the warm-up, Paul confirmed it was a hamstring problem and looks unlikely to be available for the game next Friday. He went into detail about the forced change and where those changes occurred.
He added that while we weren’t at the level we needed to be in the opening exchanges, there was no doubt we were working hard in the game, and going into half time having just scored was important for the mentality going forward in the game.
Paul spoke highly of James Bell and stated that his performances this year have been outstanding, and his partnership with Morgan Knowles is one of the best in the league as they both play the game the same way in their approach and mentality.
He also added praise for Ben Davies and Sam Royle, who have been the 18th and 19th players frequently this season, which is a spot no one wants to be in, but they keep working hard, and while they are disappointed, they never let it show, and always put the group first.
With another trip to Leeds on the horizon next week, he said that he knows they will be disappointed, but will be dangerous next week off the back of the loss, and he expects it to be an entirely different game next Friday.
