The St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens gives his preview of our third clash in 2024 against Leeds Rhinos.
Rohan Smith’s men come to the Totally Wicked Stadium looking for a slice of revenge after suffering two defeats back in March in both the league and the Challenge Cup.
Under Smith the Rhinos have shown themselves to be quite a tricky outfit with some off-the-cuff play, attempts at short kick-offs, and plenty of pace in their outside backs they pose a difficult threat, and Wellens has been pleased with the prep the team have put in to get ready for this upcoming game.
Wellens also issues an update on his squad with some gutting news regarding Jake Wingfield and Matt Whitley, both of whom have had shoulder surgery. For Wingfield, it is likely to keep him out of action for 16 weeks, Whitley is expected to be out for 12 weeks. Morgan Knowles has also had groin surgery which will keep him on the sidelines for five to six weeks.
There was positive news in the shape of Agnatius Paasi who made his on-field return last Saturday in our Reserves’ win over Castleford Tigers, as he steps up in his preparation for a return to senior match action.
