St.Helens First Team Head Coach Paul Wellens speaks to the press ahead of Friday night’s match against Catalans Dragons.
The Saints boss revealed that Joe Batchelor is expected to be missing for around eight to nine weeks following an ankle ligament injury which was picked up early in the victory over Leeds last Friday night. More injury news was confirmed with Captain Jonny Lomax to miss around four weeks due to a fracture in his hand, also sustained during the win over the Rhinos.
Wellens did announce though that Agnatius Paasi, who was named in the 21-man squad last week will get game time either in this Super League clash, or with our Reserves team this weekend.
Furthermore, Coach Wellens revealed that for the first time in his young career Jack Welsby as Vice Captain will step up and lead the team out as Captain in Lomax’s absence.
With the Dragons boasting a sizeable, formidable pack and Saints doing it tough with front-line forwards out through injury, Paul reaffirmed his belief and confidence in the seventeen men who he will name to take on the French outfit.
