St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens speaks to the press ahead of this Saturday’s match against Hull KR.
Wellens reflects on the defeat to Wigan at Magic WKND and how we need to improve on some of the efforts from that match if we wish to be successful at the back end of the season.
Curtis Sironen sadly came off early on in last weekend’s match and the Saints boss confirmed the big back-rower will likely be out for four weeks due to a tear in his calf. James Bell too needed to come off the field late on against Wigan and he is experiencing a back issue which may keep him out this week. On a positive note, Sione Mata’utia trained with the team on Wednesday afternoon and came through it well and should he continue to respond well he may feature on Saturday.
Speaking about our opponents on Saturday, the Saints boss credited the job Willie Peters has done with the Robins who sit at the top of the Betfred Super League heading into Round 23.
With Saints missing a whole host of senior men due to injuries, Wellens did not wish to focus on that as the reason our team is in the league position we are in – reaffirming that if we had handled match situations better we could have won some close battles.
