St.Helens Women’s Head Coach Matty Smith held his press conference ahead of this Sunday’s Betfred Women’s Super League Semi-Final against Wigan Warriors Women.
The Saints secured the 2024 League Leaders’ Shield and earned a home Semi-Final by topping the table at the end of the regular season, and will take on the fourth-placed Warriors.
Full of praise for our opponents on Sunday, Smith knows how tough the Warriors will be to beat after an impressive year, and knows that Dennis Betts will have his troops hyped up for the big match with a Grand Final spot on the line.
Sunday is a huge day not just for the Saints, but for women’s sport in our region with Liverpool FC Women kicking off their 2024/25 Barclay’s Women’s Super League season off at 2pm, followed by St.Helens versus Wigan at 7:30pm – with both matches played at our home ground. Smith sings the praises of our stadium and grounds staff who will turn the stadium around.
There was disappointment at this stage of the season for the Saints last year, but Matty has talked about how that has provided some fuel to ‘finish the job off’, which means the target firstly is a win in the Semi-Final.
