Ahead of the 2025 Super League season, a new memorial has been unveiled in St Helens to honour the late, great Steve Prescott MBE who made 117 appearances for his hometown club St Helens. R.F.C. (Saints) between 1993-97.
As part of recent maintenance works carried out on St Helens Borough Council’s iconic Steve Prescott Bridge – named after the former fullback who sadly passed away in 2013 after a seven-year courageous battle against a rare abdominal cancer, Pseudomyxoma Peritonei – a new, long-lasting stone memorial made from black granite has been installed, replacing the original vinyl tribute that has been in place since 2014 and had become weathered and worn over the years.
St.Helens R.F.C. were represented at the unveiling ceremony by Head Coach Paul Wellens, Club Captain Jonny Lomax, Leadership, Performance & Culture Coach James Roby, and Club Legend Tommy Martyn. Our Saints joined members of The Steve Prescott Foundation, including Steve’s wife Linzi Prescott, and St Helens Borough Council representatives including Council leader Anthony Burns.
Saints TV went along to document the moving occasion.
