The Red V suffered their first defeat of the 2025 Betfred Super League season, and Wellens insisted that it was the type of match that his team needed against tough opposition to see where we are at as a team. Wellens believed that they were not far off but not where they needed to be in the fixture to get a positive result.
In the opening half whilst our team struggled for territory there was a lot of effort and intensity in our defence. However, crediting our opposition Wellens admitted that Hull KR managed the game better than us.
Matty Lees did not feature in the match and the Saints boss revealed that he could have played but the choice was taken to not feature him this week after a couple of knocks from last week’s win over Wakefield. He should be back available for selection at home against Leeds Rhinos in the Challenge Cup next week.
Wellens reaffirms that he and his team will be looking to improve as we progress further into the 2025 campaign.
