Following our Round Seven victory over Wakefield Trinity, Paul Wellens spoke to the press to discuss the game.
With a stand out performance from George Whitby the main talking point from the game, he said that when George debuted it was in a depleted side that was low on confidence. However, through the off season he’s worked hard, similar to Jonny Lomax in his meticulous nature, and he deserved his opportunity tonight, and showed how effective he can be.
Paul went on to say that he always wanted to give George an opportunity in this game, and when Jonny Lomax came away from last week’s game with a swollen ankle that made the decision even easier for him.
Harry Robertson left the field with a quad injury in the first half and didn’t return. Paul said that we won’t know any more until he gets a scan on Monday, but it didn’t look good.
Tristan Sailor played the game in his prefered position of full-back and Paul said that the onus was on him to perform as it would mean Jack Welsby moving to six. He went on to say though that Tristan did play well, and as did Jack in the halves.
On the game though, Paul said that he was disappointed by the last 20 minutes of the game as we conceded three tries that were avoidable, but on the hole he was happy as we responded well to a short turn around, and played some high tempo, high energy rugby.
