Following our round eight fixture against the Wigan Warriors, Paul Wellens spoke to the press to discuss the game which ultimately ended with defeat for us on the day.
Paul said that it was errors that cost us in the end as we made a number of simple errors in the game, and a lot of those errors directly led to Wigan picking up points.
He went on to say that we keep having to have the same conversations week after week as a playing group, and that’s something that we really need to change to get on the right side of the result in these big games.
We did put up a second half fight back in the game where we managed to get on top and pick up a couple of tries, and Paul said that in that period we managed to get Jack Welsby more into the game and Tristan Sailor. He said we need to fix up those mistakes, and then those passages of play might come earlier for us.
George Whitby was again a shining light in the game, with Paul saying that he took on the occasion brilliantly and will only improve off the back of games like that and commended both his defence and attack.
Paul also gave an injury update as we went through more adversity in the game; Joe Batchelor seems to have picked up a hamstring issue that will be assessed in the week, and while Jon Bennison went off for a HIA, he did return to the field. Paul also spoke about Harry Robertson who will be out for around 6 weeks following a hamstring issue he picked up last week.
