The St.Helens Head Coach gave his reaction following a 58-0 home victory over Salford Red Devils in Round 16 of Betfred Super League.
Wellens called the performance a professional one, with Salford naming arguably their best lineup of the season so far, his troops needed to bang at it, and they were to run in eleven tries.
Owen Dagnall grabbed a memorable two tries, including one that would not look out of place on a football pitch, and Wellens reveals he knows that the young outside back played some football when he was younger and showed a real fight to get onto it. The Saints boss was full of praise for all his youngsters though, including Jake Burns who also grabbed a brace and whilst he is a little older, he’s still fresh to the top-flight professional scene.
Paul Wellens also gave recognition to his fullback Tristan Sailor, whose combination with Kyle Feldt has proved to be proficient in recent weeks. Reminding the press of the criticism Tristan faced earlier in the season, he has been pleased with how the Australian has kicked on in his recent performances.
However, Wellens would prefer his #6 to simply finish a try off rather than sneakily gift a teammate a score, as he did with Jake Burns.
