St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens speaks to the press following his side’s 0-6 away victory over Leeds Rhinos at AMT Headingley Stadium.
It was an incredible defensive performance by the Saints on the road, with Wellens praising his men’s efforts in a hostile environment whilst also battling the high hot temperatures. Add into that two failed head injury assessments leading to a re-shuffle of his interchanges, the Saints boss was thrilled with how his team kept responding at the home of one of the in-form teams in Super League.
Matty Lees as a prop forward in around 25 degrees heat put in an outstanding shift, playing 80 minutes and giving his all for his teammates. Wellens rightfully highlighted Lees, alongside Morgan Knowles, calling our #10 ‘phenomenal’ on the night.
The Saints boss sadly also confirmed that Noah Stephens has sadly suffered a thumb injury which has required surgery, so the bulldozing young forward is likely to miss around eight weeks of action.
