Following our round 21 win away from home against Wakefield, Paul Wellens spoke to the press to discuss his thoughts on the game.
He spoke on the players effort and application throughout the 80-minutes and said he was delighted with the group. He said that losing Curtis Sironen, and then his replacement Jake Wingfield to injury could have provided the players with an excuse to drop their standards, but this group didn’t, and praised their ability to turn up for each other like they do.
On the evenings opposition, Paul was full of praise for Wakefield as a club, saying they’re a really “top class” side, and that they have handled promotion from the Championship into Super League better than maybe any other side to date. He said he felt the scoreline probably wasn’t a fair reflection of the game, and praised our endeavour to do what we did on the night.
Paul also gave an update on Jake Wingfield and Curtis Sironen following their departure from the field due to injury, saying Jake looks to have an issue in his leg or calf, and so we will need to wait and see on that one, but Curtis Sironen, who he said was playing exceptionally before his injury, was unable to return due to a failed HIA.
