Young St.Helens back-rower Jake Davies spoke to Saints TV after stepping into the action as 18th man at The OneBore Stadium in Castleford.
The Red V were resilient after suffering two failed Head Injury Assessments and an injury to Curtis Sironen. That led to the activation of Jake coming on the field, and he enjoyed a memorable night as we booked our place in the next round of the Challenge Cup.
Davies admitted he is pleased to be involved with the squad and to spend more time around the First Team environment and he continues his progression. Getting onto the pitch during the game came as a surprise, but one he relished as Saints closed out an important win.
The young forward came close to marking the night with a try, only being stopped just short of the line.
Davies also spoke about how much he is enjoying life since joining Saints. He has quickly recognised the passion the community has for the Club and how much support the players receive from the supporters week in and week out.
With injuries creating opportunities in recent weeks, Davies highlighted how younger players have been able to step in and contribute when called upon. He pointed to the depth within the squad and the importance of being ready whenever an opportunity arises, reflecting the “next man up” mentality that runs through the group.
