Head Coach Paul Rowley speaks to the press ahead of Thursday night’s Betfred Super League clash with Hull FC at the MKM Stadium.
Captain Matty Lees is back in the mix after a long lay-off from the first match of the season at Workington, giving Saints a lift both on and off the field. Rowley was full of praise for the work he’s put into his recovery and expects his leadership and physicality to make a big difference.
There are still some gaps to deal with, particularly in the back row, with the gutting news for Jake Wingfield after picking up an ACL injury last Friday night. It does open the door for the likes of youngster Jake Davies, who could be set for a bigger role after showing plenty of promise in his recent games.
Hull FC come into the game with a fair amount of talk off the field following the news that John Cartwright would be leaving the club at the end of 2026. Paul Rowley is not reading much into that, preparing his Saints to come up against a professional Black & Whites side, and says his men will stick to their usual approach, focusing on their own game and standards.
Away from this week’s match, Rowley also confirmed he’s been interviewed for the England Head Coach position ahead of the 2026 Rugby League World Cup. For now, his full focus is on the Saints and leading the team as we strive to build momentum.
