St.Helens’ young outside back Owen Dagnall reflects on the start of the 2026 season and talks about his aims as we head past a third of the way through the campaign.
The young winger Owen Dagnall is expecting a tough test as Saints get set to face Wakefield Trinity in what looks like a strong Super League 2026 match-up.
Wakefield come into the game in good form, and Dagnall knows they will offer a much bigger challenge this time around. After last year’s meetings, he’s expecting a response, particularly through the middle where they carry plenty of power. Matching that intensity will be key if Saints are to come out on top.
Dagnall has seen more game time in recent weeks and is keen to take his chance. He admits there have been a few lessons along the way, especially defensively, but feels he’s improving with each outing. Work on the training field alongside teammates and coaches has helped sharpen that side of his game, and he’s growing in confidence as a result.
He’s also benefiting from having experience around him on the edge, with strong communication and organisation helping him settle into his role. That understanding will be important against a Wakefield side capable of testing teams right across the pitch.
After getting his first try of the season, Dagnall is looking to build on that and add more, knowing that finishing chances is a big part of his job on the wing.
He also points to the group of young players coming through together, many of whom have made the step up at the same time, as a real positive for the squad.
With a big game ahead, Dagnall is hoping for plenty of noise from the Saints supporters, knowing their backing can make a real difference in a close contest.
