St.Helens captain Matty Lees speaks to Saints TV ahead of taking on Wigan Warriors in the Betfred Challenge Cup Semi-Final
Lees recognises it as the biggest game Saints have faced so far this season, particularly given the Club’s desire to get back to lifting silverware. While Wigan present a formidable challenge, the focus within the camp has been on meeting that head-on and delivering a performance that matches the occasion.
The recent Good Friday win over Wigan remains fresh, and whilst Lees missed that game due to injury recovery, he saw firsthand the intensity of that contest and the character we showed to win it. Knowing that Wigan will be looking to be better than recent weeks, Lees wants our team’s standards to be higher for the knockout encounter.
After a stop-start beginning to the year, Lees also feels he is finding his rhythm now after his return to action. Increased game time in last week’s match against York has helped him build confidence, and he is now looking to kick on and make a bigger impact as we go into the next stage of the campaign.
With a large Saints following set to travel to Halliwell Jones Stadium, Lees believes that our fans can provide an extra edge, as we look to book our spot at Wembley.
