St.Helens Head Coach Paul Rowley speaks to the press to preview our match in Round 11 of the Betfred Super League 2026.
Rowley insists his side’s focus is firmly on performance ahead of Thursday night’s clash with Huddersfield, despite a tough week following their Challenge Cup exit at the semi-final stage and a short turnaround into this fixture.
Rowley refused to underestimate Huddersfield despite their position at the foot of the table, pointing to their recent victory away at Wigan as evidence of the dangers they can pose, while also praising the work done by interim coach Liam Finn.
The Saints will have to deal with the loss of captain Matty Lees for the remainder of the season due to a patella tendon injury. The Saints’ Head Coach admitted the side is being tested again through adversity, but stressed the squad must continue to adapt. He also confirmed both Lees and Jake Wingfield had come through their surgeries successfully and have immediately started their recovery. There was also positive updates on Mark Percival and Nene Macdonald, who are on the mend.
Despite the disappointment of the Cup exit, Rowley believes there were valuable lessons to take from the defeat and expects the experience to benefit a number of our players who featured in their first major semi-final. The focus after a thorough review is now on aiming to be consistent in the league campaign.
Thursday night is also set to be a special occasion for Jonny Lomax, who could make his 400th career appearance. Rowley described the milestone as a phenomenal achievement given the longevity and standard of Lomax’s career, calling him a role model and ultimate professional.
