St.Helens’ #1 believes the team showed signs of improvement in our away match at Leeds, with the full-back taking plenty of encouragement from the performance despite the result.
Welsby felt that the Saints looked much more like themselves at Headingley, praising the effort and spirit shown throughout the match. He also felt the side produced the foundations that supporters expect to see from a St.Helens team.
Back in his usual full-back position, Welsby was pleased with his own performance but knows he can get better, and he admitted it always feels special to wear the Saints shirt in that role. Having dealt with injuries, he wants to get consistent game time again and believes he and several other players are beginning to hit their stride physically.
The Saints captain on the night also thanked the travelling supporters for their backing, despite the rain on the uncovered Western Terrace. Our #1 said the squad is adapting to Paul Rowley’s style and ideas, and he remains confident that better performances and results will follow as the group continues to develop.
