St.Helens Head Coach Paul Rowley spoke to the press following his side’s 10-40 away win over Bradford Bulls.
Rowley was pleased with the team’s performance overall, knowing they had to work hard in the first half, especially after losing a player to the sin bin in difficult, humid conditions. He believed too many penalties gave Bradford easy territory and made life tougher than it needed to be in the early stages.
The second half was better, the Red V managed to build pressure, control the game and got the reward their performance deserved.
The Saints boss was especially pleased with Jacob Hosting returning to action after his leg break, and he also felt Jack Welsby had his best game since coming back. Rowley also praised Jacob Douglas on his Saints debut and young hooker Tom Humphreys for taking their opportunities.
Rowley believes there is still plenty of improvement to come as the squad continues to come together. After admitting last week’s win wasn’t pretty, the Head Coach said the display against Bradford was closer to what he wants his team to look like. He stressed there is still work to do, but believes the Saints are moving in the right direction.
