Assistant Coach Lee Briers speaks to the press ahead of St.Helens’ away match at Wigan Warriors on Friday night.
The St.Helens native knows just how much The Derby means to all involved, and following on from the brutal and bruising Magic Weekend meeting just three weeks ago, Briers is expecting another explosive affair.
Saints head into Friday’s game with confidence following last week’s victory over Catalans. Briers praised the continued progress of several young players, highlighting Tom Humphreys’ development after earning his First Team opportunity through hard work and patience. He also spoke positively about Harry Robertson’s versatility and long-term development, and praised Jack Campbell for his memorable debut appearance in the win over the Dragons.
On the injury front, Briers confirmed Lewis Murphy and Shane Wright could be back in contention for the 21-man squad, while one of our props, Alex Walmsley or George Delaney, could also return.
Looking ahead to Friday’s game, Briers stressed the importance of discipline against a dangerous Wigan side and said the Club’s focus remains on building momentum. He also issued a rallying call to our Saints fans, urging their fantastic, continued backing and called on them to create another strong atmosphere in the away end at Wigan.
