Fresh off the news she will bring the curtain down on her playing career at the end of 2026, Jodie Cunningham spoke to Saints TV to preview the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup 2026.
Heading into a sixth straight final and a fourth consecutive Wembley appearance, Cunningham said the squad are looking forward to enjoying the occasion while staying fully focused on the game itself. With some players experiencing Wembley for the first time, she believes it is important to take in the whole week and make the most of the experience.
After announcing earlier this week that both Cunningham and Emily Rudge will retire at the end of the 2026 season, she made it clear the team’s focus remains firmly on this year’s campaign and another chance to win silverware.
Saints are also motivated by last year’s Challenge Cup Final defeat to Wigan. Cunningham admitted the team were disappointed with their performance that day and are determined to put things right this weekend after working hard throughout the season to return to Wembley.
She expects another tough contest between two of the top sides in the women’s game, but believes Saints are well prepared after a strong Challenge Cup run and a hard-fought semi-final win over York.
Cunningham also spoke about the importance of showcasing women’s rugby league on the big stage, with the final live on the BBC and in front of a large Wembley crowd.
