Interim Head Coach Eamon O’Carroll spoke to the press following St.Helens’ 34-32 narrow away loss to York Knights in Round 21 of the Betfred Super League 2026.
O’Carroll believes Saints can take positives, despite admitting discipline and key moments proved costly. He felt his side showed plenty of fight to stay in the contest but said yardage penalties and defensive lapses gave York too many opportunities. He believes those areas are clear improvements to focus on over the six games that remain in the regular season.
The Interim Head Coach was pleased with the contribution of the Saints’ younger players, saying they made a positive impact after coming off the bench. Harry Robertson was also singled out for another excellent display and showing growing confidence.
Looking ahead, O’Carroll said his priority is continuing to improve the team while helping the Club’s younger players gain valuable Super League experience, and insisted there is still plenty to play for and believes the squad will continue to grow together over the weeks ahead.
With another quick turnaround before Thursday night’s home fixture against Hull FC, O’Carroll thanked the travelling Saints supporters for their fantastic backing in York and hopes another strong atmosphere at the BrewDog Stadium can help the team respond.
