Young St.Helens hooker Tom Humphreys had a moment to remember when he scored his first senior try in the Saints’ win over Castleford Tigers. He gave his reaction to Saints TV.
Tom had waited eleven games for his first try in the Red V and was delighted to get on the scoresheet in front of the home supporters.
It was a great move to get it too, with Jack Welsby returning the favour after Humphreys had assisted him in the Catalans game a few weeks ago.
Humphreys enjoyed the intensity of what was a fiery contest, explaining that hard-fought games bring an extra edge and help maintain the energy levels even when players begin to tire. He was also unfazed by facing some of Castleford’s bigger forwards, focusing instead on carrying out his defensive role.
With the play-offs race continuing to heat up, Humphreys stressed the importance of taking things one game and even one training session at a time. He also praised interim Head Coach Eamon O’Carroll, as well as the support he has received during a chaotic period for the club.
Scoring for the club he grew up supporting was a dream moment, describing the opportunity to play for St.Helens as everything he has wanted since being a kid.
