Alex Walmsley speaks to Saints TV ahead of the huge clash between St.Helens and Leeds Rhinos at the BrewDog Stadium this Friday night.
Walmsley is relishing the chance to return home to face the current league leaders. Our star forward highlighted the impact of home support, noting that the atmosphere created by the Saints fans helped the team build a strong home advantage during last week’s win over Castleford.
Walmsley feels Saints are starting to build some consistency after a difficult period of the season, with injuries and changes having tested the squad. The return of experienced players such as David Klemmer and Jonny Lomax has provided a welcome boost, while the emergence of younger players has also been a positive.
The prop has taken on a mentoring role with the likes of Matty Evans and Chris Matagi, helping the younger forwards as they establish themselves in the First Team.
With Saints still fighting for a place in the play-offs, Walmsley knows the importance of the remaining games. However, the focus is firmly on Leeds, rather than looking too far ahead. He expects another fiercely contested battle between two historic rivals and believes Saints can give themselves a chance if they continue to build on their recent performances.
