Interim Head Coach Eamon O’Carroll speaks to the press ahead of St.Helens’ final match of the Betfred Super League 2026 season, at home against Hull KR.
O’Carroll says the Saints are determined to give Jonny Lomax and Mark Percival the send-off they deserve when they make their final appearances in the famous Red V strip against Hull KR on Friday night.
The focus this week has been on celebrating the careers of the two legendary players, who have played such a huge role in the St.Helens’ modern-day success, while also recognising the contribution of Nathan Mill, Saints’ Head Physiotherapist, who will also depart the club.
Friday will also mark the end of O’Carroll’s time as Interim Head Coach, and his time with the Saints, with a move to rugby union side Scarlets awaiting him after our season comes to an end. Eamon has thoroughly enjoyed the experience and believes leading the team through a difficult period, with a heavily depleted squad, will prove valuable to his development as an aspiring coach.
O’Carroll praised the group’s mentality and standards, highlighting the influence of Jonny Lomax and Jack Welsby, while also pointing to Harry Robertson’s development and emerging leadership qualities.
Ultimately, O’Carroll wants Saints to produce a performance that reflects the commitment and pride Lomax and Percival have shown throughout their careers. With the pair having given so much to the Club, he believes Friday night is an opportunity to give them the home farewell they deserve.
