St.Helens Head Coach Paul Wellens speaks to the press following his side’s 4-46 victory over Salford Red Devils.
Whilst it was a strong win over the struggling Salford side, Wellens reveals that it came at a cost with back-rowers Curtis Sironen and Joe Batchelor picking up issues, and George Whitby sadly failing his Head Injury Assessment. Wellens was not best pleased with the manner of how Whitby was dealt with once the tackle that caused his HIA, with another effort of pushing the Saints youngster’s head into the ground again.
The Saints boss was under no illusions that the team will not be judged on their performance today, but needed to go to the Salford Community Stadium and put on a performance and get the result. Wellens was pleased with they way his side dealt with a heated period too.
Try scorers Kyle Feldt and Owen Dagnall got praise from their Head Coach for their efforts, with Feldt’s four-try haul highlighting the influence our winger can have, now that he has returned to the field after injury. For Dagnall, it was pleasing for Wellens to see the youngster go over on his starting Saints debut.
