Head Coach Paul Rowley spoke to the press following St.Helens’ 24-14 loss away at Warrington Wolves.
Admitting that Warrington were the deserved winners on the night, Rowley believed that his team dipped their toe in the water defensively, which made for a tough opening night of the new league season.
Whilst pleased with the fightback shown by Saints, Rowley believed that the Wolves were ‘desperate’ to get the win, reflected by their aggression and better control of the ruck, which will be faster in 2026.
Confirming that Jack Welsby suffered a dislocated shoulder after scoring a try, the Red V fullback was sent to hospital due to struggles with getting it back in place.
Rowley was steadfast in his belief that whilst it is a blow to lose Welsby, it’s another challenge for him and the team to manage and take on.
