Saints Women welcomed the Knights Women to Ruskin Park on Sunday afternoon, looking to build on our 36-0 win over rivals Wigan in the Coral Challenge Cup last time out.
Saints women dominated the first half and a second minute Rebecca Rotherham try set the tempo for the Saints. That was added to five minutes later as Faye Gaskin collected a beautiful kick through by Beth Stott to touch down underneath the sticks. Gaskin converted her own try, her only conversion of the half, in windy conditions at Ruskin Park.
We got our third try of the afternoon in the 11th minute as Saints moved the ball from right to left and Rhianna Burke powered her way over in the left corner.
Our fourth came minutes later. Naomi Williams forced her way over in the right corner after we won a scrum ten metres out.
Burke then got her second of the half, strolling over in the corner after Saints move the ball from right to left. Williams then added her second after a great flat pass by Stott allowed her to walk in to the right of the sticks.
Chantelle Crowl added our final try of the half, just before the break after Gaskin’s break set her on her way. That score meant we led 30-0 at the interval.
Within two minutes of the restart, Saints scored again through Gaskin who broke the line to score under the sticks. She converted her own try to increase the lead.
Crowl then added her second in the 45th minute, touching down under the sticks after breaking a tackle. Beth Stott converted the try, after taking the kicking duties over from Gaskin.
Burke then completed her hat-trick on 54 minutes, forcing her way over in the left corner to get her third of the game. Danielle Bush then brought the 50 mark up for the Saints after she broke the line after a great pass by Gaskin, before holding off a tackle to score. Beth Stott’s conversion bounced out off the post.
Williams then went over to complete her hat-trick. Saints switched the ball from left to right and Williams touched down for her third try. Beth Stott’s conversion attempt went wide, before York pulled a try back eight minutes from time to reduce the deficit. They added the conversion too to make it 54-6.
Gaskin completed her hat-trick late on to make it 58-6 with Beth Stott’s conversion successful wrapping up an impressive 60-6 points win for the Saints Women.
