Head Coach Paul Rowley gives his verdict following his St.Helens side’s 38-6 victory over Huddersfield Giants in Round 15 of the Betfred Super League.
The Saints ended a three-match winless run by beating the Giants, and Rowley was pleased to see the Saints get back to winning ways but admitted the performance was far from perfect.
Rowley felt his side created plenty of chances but were held back by basic errors and a lack of composure, particularly in the opening stages. While the final scoreline was convincing, he believes there is still plenty of improvement to come from the team, and that our Saints have the potential now to kick on in the second half of the season.
Among the positives, Rowley praised Tristan Sailor and Shane Wright for strong performances, while Jake Davies impressed with two tries after coming off the bench. He was also encouraged by the return of Nene Macdonald and the contribution of young hooker Tom Humphries.
He also confirmed that Mark Percival will be assessed after suffering a suspected hamstring injury, while Matt Whitley faces a lengthy lay-off with a wrist problem that could require surgery. George Whitby is awaiting further results after aggravating a knee injury.
Despite the areas for improvement, Rowley stressed the importance of enjoying the victory and the two points as Saints moved forward.
