Head Coach Paul Rowley spoke to the press following St.Helens’ 6-18 loss to Warrington Wolves in Round 14 of the Betfred Super League 2026.
Rowley revealed that Jonny Lomax suffered a significant jaw injury following a heavy collision during the game and went to the hospital. While the full extent will be assessed, the Saints boss is certain our number seven will approach this setback with the determination he has shown throughout his career.
Reflecting on the game itself, Rowley believed the Saints were the better side for the first half and created enough pressure to build a stronger lead. However, he felt Warrington’s defence kept them in the contest before the visitors gained control of territory and possession in the second half.
Believing the difference between the two sides came down to handling crucial moments, he was pleased that the team remained competitive throughout and showed plenty of effort, despite a lot of change due to three Head Injury Assessments.
Talking about some positive player performances, Jake Davies was commended for showing great character after picking up knocks during the game and continuing to contribute, while debutant Daniel Suluka-Fifita impressed with his energy and physicality off the bench.
Although disappointed to lose at home for the first time, Rowley took encouragement by the commitment shown by his players, but stressed that Saints must improve their execution in decisive moments if we are to earn hard victories.
